The Bears head to H-town looking to continue Lone Star State success
HOUSTON, Texas – No. 21 Baylor volleyball hits the road for the penultimate time in the regular season, traveling south to face Houston on Saturday afternoon at the Fertitta Center.
The Bears will look to bounce back after a hard-fought 3-1 loss at Kansas State on Wednesday, where freshman standout Ksenia Rakhmanchik posted 23 kills, her second straight road match with 20-plus. Setter Harley Kreck tallied her third double-double of the season with 39 assists and a team-high 13 digs. Baylor battled to the end in each of the final three sets but was undone by 14 service errors, its second-highest total of the season.
Serving consistency remains one of the biggest keys to success for Baylor, which has served at a .912 clip in its 14 wins compared to just .874 in its nine losses. The Bears will look to regain their rhythm from the service line and use their offensive balance against a Houston team that surrendered 10 aces to BU in a 3-0 rout by the green and gold last month in Waco.
Saturday's matchup renews a familiar rivalry between former Southwest Conference foes. After Houston dominated the early series history, winning 30 of the first 31 meetings, Baylor has flipped the script with 10-straight wins over the Cougars, including that commanding sweep in Waco earlier this season. Under head coach Ryan McGuyre, Baylor holds a 68-35 record against in-state opponents, including 37-9 against current Big 12 programs from Texas.
A win in Houston would be Baylor's first road victory since Sept. 24 and would help solidify the Bears' standing in the top half of the Big 12 as the regular season nears its close.
First serve between the Bears and Cougars is set for 1 p.m. and will air on ESPN+. Live stats are available all season on BaylorBears.com/Stats.
