Bears continue conference-opening week with Sun Devils
WACO, Texas – No. 19 Baylor volleyball hosts No. 14 Arizona State on Friday night for a 7 p.m. match, finishing off a nine-match homestand at the Ferrell Center.
The Friday showdown continues the first week of Big 12 play, the Bears taking a 3-1 decision over Arizona in Waco and the Sun Devils sweeping No. 22 TCU on Wednesday night in Fort Worth.
BU (9-3) handed the Wildcats (11-1) their first loss of the season, while Arizona State (12-1) took its first ranked win of the season up I-35.
Against the Wildcats, Baylor saw Alicia Andrew lead the team with 14 kills and a hit percentage of .591. Jackie Barrett Frazier recorded 42 assists with 10 digs as well as three blocks. There were four Bears overall who had double-digit kills, with three players digging 10 or more balls.
Arizona State and TCU kept pace with each other across the three sets, but the Sun Devils prevailed each time, sweeping the Horned Frogs.
Baylor improved to 103-44 in Big 12 matches under head coach Ryan McGuyre and have raked in 229 Big 12 wins overall since 1996.
Leading the way for the Bears through 12 matches are senior outside hitter Elise McGhee (138 kills, 20 aces), senior libero Lauren Briseño (181 digs), graduate transfer setter Barrett Frazier (331 assists) and senior middle blocker Manuela Bibinbe (37 blocks).
Baylor volleyball alumna Preslie Anderson returns to Waco, this time as an assistant coach for Arizona State. She played her her final two seasons with the Bears in 2020 and 2021 before serving as the volunteer assistant for former BU associate head coach Jason Williams at TCU. She has been in Tempe with the Sun Devils since 2023.
