Bears and Rainbow Wahine meet in Saturday night showdown
WACO, Texas – The 20th-ranked Baylor volleyball team hosts Hawai'i on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. first serve at the Ferrell Center.
It is "Country Night" for the Bears, with fans encouraged to don their best country get-up.
BU (7-3) hosts Hawaii (6-2) for a Saturday bout after the Rainbow Wahine face No. 8 Texas in Austin on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. CT. Baylor looks to bounce back after falling in a competitive match with Texas at home on Wednesday.
The Bears and Rainbow Wahine last met in 2019, nearly to the day, in Waco. BU came away with the 3-0 win, but UH leads in the all-time series, 6-2. Baylor has won the last two matches against the Wahine, with the 2018 meeting in the NCAA Tournament being a reverse sweep for the Bears in Eugene, Ore.
Head coach Ryan McGuyre's wife, Jennifer Roberts McGuyre, was a standout for UH from 1996-99 as a middle hitter. She was a freshman when the Wahine's now-head coach, Robyn Ah Mow, was a senior setter for the program.
Baylor associate head coach Joshua Walker was a key player for the Rainbow Warriors from 2006-11 at outside hitter before joining the men's staff as an assistant coach for seven seasons, helping the Warriors secure consecutive NCAA Championships in 2021 and 2022. He and UH assistant coach Nick Castello were teammates on the 2011 men's team.
The SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center, Hawai'i's home gym, was based on Baylor's Ferrell Center. The Ferrell was finished in 1988 and designed by architects Crain & Anderson, Inc., while the SSC was completed in 1994 with architects Kauahikaua and Chun (Honolulu) Heery Architects (Atlanta) on the project.
The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kit McConnico and Adam Johnson on the call. Live stats are available at BaylorStats.com, with a full recap and final box score uploaded to BaylorBears.com after the conclusion of the match.
Fans interested in purchasing tickets can visit BaylorBears.com/Tickets. All seats are general admission for volleyball in the Ferrell Center.
