Kostenko, Tiglea, Gibbs make quarterfinals run in main draw
FORT WORTH, Texas – Baylor women's tennis wrapped up its time at the 2024 ITA DI Texas Regional Championship at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Liubov Kostenko and Nanaka Sato had strong showings in the main and consolation singles draws, respectively. Kostenko went on to the main singles draw quarterfinals after three victories, while Sato lost her first match before a five-match run to win the consolation draw off a walkover against TCU's Yu-Chin Tsai.
Cristina Tiglea and Kennedy Gibbs qualified to the quarterfinals after capturing two victories in the main doubles draw.
THE RUNDOWN
Na Dong, Wenfei Yu, Zuzanna Kubacha, Tiglea and Kostenko all won their first-round matchups of the main draw for singles. The Bears continued with Dong, Kostenko and Tiglea taking wins in the second round, and Yu constructed an upset over the third-seeded Jeanette Mireles from Texas A&M.
Kostenko was the only Bear to continue moving on with a defeat of SMU's Arianna Stavropoulos 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16 before her run at the regional championship came to an end to the No. 5 seed Ashton Bowers of Texas in two sets.
In doubles, the pair of Tiglea and Gibbs finished the tournament 2-1, earning a victory over Houston's Gabriela Cortes and Heta Nuutinen, 8-1. The pairings of Kostenko / Dong, Sato / Lauren Littell and Brooke Thompson / Kubacha all earned a victory in the first round, with Thompson / Kubacha and Kostenko / Dong, making it to the round of 16 before elimination.

Baylor will return to Fort Worth to compete in the TCU Invitational beginning Oct. 31.
