THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer recorded a 0-0 draw against Kansas Thursday night at Rock Chalk Park.
Baylor created chances early in the first half, with six shots in the first 16 minutes of play. Ashley Merrill got things started with a ball that sailed just high of the net, before Tyler Isgrig put one on frame and the Bears were rewarded a corner. Hannah Augustyn found the ball from Isgrig's corner kick and headed it in, but the KU goalkeeper came up with the save.
Hannah Boughton and Skylar Zinnecker also put shots on goal in the first half.
Baylor goalkeeper Ashlee Zirkel was only forced to make one save in the first 45, which came in the 27thminute.
Kansas threatened early in the second half, with back-to-back shots in the 50th minute, but both shots were off target.
Ava Colberg got off the first shot in the second half for the Bears in the 60th minute, that led BU to its first corner of the half. Isgrig then lined up a shot that was saved by KU, before back-to-back-to-back shots by Salma SImonin and Adriana Merriam created the best chances for the Bears but weren't able to find the back of the net.
With time winding down, Blythe Obar got off the Bears last shot of the game in the 80th minute but the shot was just wide of the net.
Zirkel recorded her first solo shutout in goal, as she played the full 90 minutes.
