Bears sitting at .500 in Big 12 play going into matchup in Lawrence
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 13th-ranked Baylor volleyball team is ready to finish their first Big 12 road slate with (RV) Kansas at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
The Bears (11-3, 1-1) are 28-27 against the Jayhawks (12-3, 2-1) all-time, but are tied at 7-7 with head coaches Ryan McGuyre and Ray Bechard at the helm of their respective programs.
Coming into the KU match, BU has senior outside hitter Lauren Harrison back on the court after missing four-straight matches. In her returning match in the loss to Iowa State on Wednesday, she recorded double-digit kills and led the team with 16. Lauren Briseño continued to perform from the service line with two aces, as well as leading the team with 15 digs. On defense, middles Kara McGhee and Mallory Talbert each had four blocks, both recording one solo. Freshman setter Averi Carlson recorded her second 45-assist match of the season against the Cyclones.
Kansas comes into the match after sweeping Oklahoma in Norman on Wednesday. Previously, the Jayhawks won in a five-set bout over rival Kansas State in Manhattan on Sept. 24. They come into the match led by Ayah Elnady in kills with 152 on the season and Lauren Dooley on the defensive side with 62 blocks overall.
