Bears face Sun Devils at Whiteman Tennis Center on Wednesday
TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 4 Baylor men's tennis team is set for a Wednesday night matchup with No. 71 Arizona State, with match time set at 7 p.m. CT at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
The Bears (15-1) look to win their third match in a row when they face the Sun Devils (3-7) in Tempe. The all-time series between the teams leans heavily in Baylor's favor, with BU winning the last four matches and leading 5-1 overall, including a 4-0 sweep in the last meeting in March 2021.
Baylor is coming off a 4-1 win over No. 58 Illinois, where Matias Soto and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi went 2-0 on the day with their individual singles wins and their 6-2 doubles win on court two. No. 110 Soto defeated Siphosothando Montsi, 6-2, 6-2, on court one, while Grassi Mazzuchi bested Gabrielus Guzauskas, 6-2, 6-1, on court five.
ASU fell to Memphis in the ASU 8-Team Tournament on Feb. 27 after defeating No. 65 Rice and Cal-Santa Barbara, both at 4-1. In the match against the Tigers, ASU dropped the championship match of the tournament at 4-2 in Tempe. Arizona State was set to face No. 20 Oklahoma on March 6, but the match was canceled. The Sun Devils have two singles players and one doubles pairing ranked in the latest ITA polls, with Murphy Cassone ranked 27th, Fabien Salle ranked 56th, and doubles pair of Max McKennon and Fabien Salle coming in at 48th.
Going into Wednesday's match, Baylor has three players with more than 10 dual-match singles wins under their belts this season: Grassi Mazzuchi (13-1), Finn Bass (11-2) and No. 28 Adrian Boitan (10-0). No. 42 Sven Lah is 8-3 and No. 110 Soto is 8-2, while Marko Miladinović is 5-3 and Tadeas Paroulek is at 4-1.
On the doubles side, the No. 24 pair Mazzuchi and Soto are 11-2 when playing together, all on court two, and the No. 19 pair of Bass and Lah are 7-3, all on court one. Boitan and Paroulek are 7-2 as partners.
