Bears hang tough with West Virginia but fall short 1-0
THE RUNDOWN
ROUND ROCK, Texas – Baylor battled West Virginia for the second time in a week, as they took on the Mountaineers in their first game of the Big 12 Tournament. Baylor came in as the number three seed and fought West Virginia the entirety of the game before a second half goal gave the Mountaineers the 1-0 win.
In a first half that looked a lot like the previous week's matchup, the Bears held the Mountaineers to five shots, none of them on goal. An on frame shot from Elizabeth Kooiman in the 12th minute was the only shot on goal in the first half for the Bears where they only sent two shots towards the goal.
The Bears brought the same fight to the second half taking five chances with two on frame from Mackenzie Anthony and Olivia Mack in the 52nd and 56th minutes. Goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt recorded three saves, all coming in the second half. West Virginia was able to capitalize on a shot in the 80th minute giving them the 1-0 advantage.
Six Bears recorded shots tonight, Taylor Moon, Maddie Algya, Mackenzie Anthony, Elizabeth Kooiman, Lorelai Stramrood, and Olivia Mack.
