AMES, Iowa – For the third-straight game, Baylor (0-1-2) battled into more than 100 minutes of action. This time, however, Iowa State netted the golden goal in the 104th minute to claim the 2-1 victory over the Bears. Baylor is now 18-8-2 all-time against the Cyclones, with six of those losses coming in overtime.
Iowa State took the early lead in the 14th minute when Kenady Adams scored. It marked the first goal senior keeper Jennifer Wandt had given up all season as she played 234 minutes of shutout soccer in-between the pipes for the Bears.
Both teams battled back and forth until Chloe Japic netted the equalizer for the Bears in the 73rd minute. Set up just outside the box for a free kick, Japic was in between Maddie Algya and Ally Henderson who each touched the ball before the true freshman booted a scorcher into the left side of the net. Japic became the first true freshman to score the first goal of the season for Baylor since Maddie Algya in 2018 against ACU.
Baylor nearly came away with a victory in the final minute of regulation when Henderson delivered a shot that missed the top of the goal by mere inches. On the night, Baylor outshot the Cyclones, 26-10 (8-3 on goal).
The Bears had seven corners on Friday – a season high – but it was on its lone corner kick of the match that Iowa State netted the golden goal in the second overtime period.
HIGHLIGHTS
3 – All three matches this season have gone to overtime.
TOP QUOTES
Paul Jobson on the game…
"I thought Iowa State was very good executing their game plan, especially early in the match. I think once we dialed it in, we had the better chances. By that time though, we were a goal down. I was proud of how we fought back to equalize. (Chloe) Japic hit a fantastic free kick. These are the games you learn the most about your team. I am excited to get home to start preparing for next week's match with this great group of girls."
