Freshman Gabrielle Marty earns MOP horsemanship honors in the loss

DALLAS – No. 6 Baylor equestrian (0-1) fell 14-5 in its season opener to No. 5 SMU Friday at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
Baylor falls to 2-1 in season openers under head coach Casie Maxwell, including 0-1 in road openers.
BU started out the meet in flat and horsemanship. While SMU took a 5-0 win in flat, the Bears scored their first points of the meet in horsemanship when freshman Gabrielle Marty scored a 75.5 over Mallory Vreogh's 66.5 on Desi. The score also earned her MOP honors in her first collegiate meet. Junior Clara Johnson defeated Lily Anderson, 75-73, on Pete for the Bears' other point.
In fences, the Bears secured the event with a 3-2 win. Senior Madison Day tied a team-high 86 to defeat Olivia Woodson on Converse while freshman Madeline Vorhies won 83-75 over Kirsten Ostling on Hamilton. Rachael Davis scored the final point of meet for the Bears with an 85-84 victory over Vivian Yowen on Zulu.
