DES MOINES, Iowa – No. 21 Baylor defeated Drake 1-0 in overtime Friday night at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines.
In the 95th minute, Kylie Ross booted a ball from around midfield toward the goal. Camryn Wendlandt rose up and headed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net to break the scoreless tie and give the Bears the victory.
In the 74th minute, it seemed that Baylor had finally found the back of the net. Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Wandt took a free kick from 63 yards out that bounced over the Drake keeper and into the upper right corner of the goal. However, the score was waved off because it was an indirect free kick.
Overall, Baylor finished with a 21-6 advantage in shots. While 10 of those were on goal for the Bears, the Bulldogs only had two. Goalkeepers Maya Bellomo and Jennifer Wandt each recorded a save.
HIGHLIGHTS
78 - Number of career wins head coach Paul Jobson has. He is now tied atop the program record book in coaching victories with his wife, Marci (78, 2008-14).
TOP QUOTE
Paul Jobson on the match…
"Happy for our team to walk out with a win on the road. I thought Drake did a really good job defending us, and their goalkeeper played very well. I was happy with how we battled until the very end. Wins on the road are tough, and now we have to recover to face another tough opponent Sunday."
