THE RUNDOWN
DALLAS – Baylor men's tennis freshmen Christopher Frantzen and Rahul Dhokia led the way during the Bears' run at the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge at the SMU Tennis Complex in Dallas.
Despite dropping his first singles match to Arkansas' Nicolas Rousset, Frantzen won his next three matches to earn a spot in the singles playoff rounds on Sunday. He advanced to the semifinals with a 10-5 win over Princeton's Kabir Sarita before falling to Mississippi State's Florian Broska, 10-8. He ended the weekend 3-1 in singles matches and 1-1 in the playoffs.
Dhokia also went 3-1 in singles action. He opened the tournament with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tyler Junior College's Lamar Bartley but then dropped a three-set loss to Princeton's Sarita in the second round. He closed out the weekend with wins over UT Arlington and SMU in the blue flight draw.
Senior Ryan Dickerson went 1-1 in singles play in the red flight after securing a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Princeton's Will Peters and then falling in three sets to Wichita State's Murkel Dellien.
In his fall debut, sophomore Adrian Boitan went 1-2 and secured a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Arkansas' Jose Dominguez Alonso in the second round of consolation play.
In doubles, Dickerson teamed up with Frantzen for the first time this season. The duo took a quick 8-1 win over UT Arlington's Ricardo Alban/Eduard Simo before dropping a close 8-6 decision to Princeton's Payton Holden/Davey Roberts in the round of 16.
