Bears slip to Longhorns after controlling pace throughout match
THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas – Baylor soccer (7-4-0) allowed a quick overtime goal in the first extra time game of the season for the Bears, falling 2-1 (OT) to No. 11 Texas (9-0-1) on Friday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium & Soccer Field.
Baylor drew first blood and controlled the pace for most of the match, taking the first crack at the scoreboard in the 15th minute.
Ally Henderson got the push started, passing wide to Ariel Leach.
Leach set and served up a perfect cross to Julie James, who headed home the goal to put BU up 1-0.
With BU leading 1-0 at half, the Longhorns evened the score with a 57th minute goal, pushing the contest into a draw through regulation.
Two opportunities in the 73rd and 79th minute for BU seemed to nearly cross or bounce on the goal line, but both were cleared out as saves for the Longhorns, narrowly missing out on a go-ahead goal for the Bears.
In a last minute effort in regular time, BU had shots by both Taylor Moon and Camryn Wendlandt that rang off the crossbar, again keeping BU out of the net and away from the go-ahead score as regulation time expired.
The Longhorns made quick work in overtime, finding the net just 30 seconds into the extra time to clinch the win on the golden goal.
