Bears storm back from 2-0 deficit to capture preseason victory.
THE RUNDOWN
DENVER – 16th-ranked Baylor volleyball opened preseason action with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Denver Friday night at Hamilton Gym, 19-25, 25-27, 25-23, 25-21, 15-5.
Yossiana Pressley led all players with 21 kills on 60 attempts while Aniah Philo anchored the defense with a match-high 18 digs in the back row.
Defensively, the Bears outblocked the Pioneers, 13.0-8.5, and piled on six service aces.
BU opened the first set with a 10-7 lead but couldn't hold on as the Pioneers rattled off seven of the last nine points to take the first frame, 25-21.
Baylor then jumped out to a 6-1 advantage following a Pressley kill, but Denver continued to climb back in and used two late kills to take the second set, 27-25.
Down 2-0, the Bears found themselves in a 20-15 deficit but used a Philo kill to tie it up at 23-23. Jaelyn Jackson and Marieke van der Mark combined for a block to help BU take the third set, 25-23.
BU clawed its way back and pulled ahead at 16-15 after a Pioneer attack error and never looked back to take set four, 25-21, and force a final set.
Set five was all Baylor as the Bears held DU to a -.286 efficiency and recorded six blocks to walk away with a 15-5 fifth-set victory.

• The Bears hit .387 for 13 kills on 31 attacks in the fourth set.
