Junior forward earns first team honors for top national academic award
WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer junior forward Camryn Wendlandt was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Soccer NCAA Division I District 5 first team, announced Thursday by the CoSIDA organization.
Wendlandt has enjoyed a stellar season both on and off the field, earning a 3.93 GPA as an International Business/Business French major. On the field, she is the team's leading scorer with nine goals, 19 points and five game-winners.
The Couer d'Alene, Idaho, native earned Academic All-Big 12 first team and All-Big 12 second team honors, helping lead the Bears to a Big 12 regular season title and 17-5 overall record.
Wendlandt's honor gives BU a selection to the Academic All-District in consecutive years for the first time since 2012-2013, after Precious Akanyirige's second team selection in 2017. Camryn is the 17th player in program history to be recognized, as BU has had 26 all-time selections (includes players honored multiple times) and six since 2012.
The academic honor, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
Wendlandt and the Bears will open play in the 2018 NCAA Soccer Championship on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m., hosting ACU in the first round of postseason play at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
