Senior midfielder earns program’s first-ever first team honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Baylor soccer senior midfielder Julie James was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America first team, announced Thursday evening by the association.
The Fairview, Texas, native is the first student-athlete in program history to earn first team honors, the fifth All-American, overall (Courtney Saunders, 1998; Dawn Greathouse, 1998; Dana Larsen, 2012, Aline De Lima, 2017) and the second in the head coaching tenure of Paul Jobson.
This year's NCAA Division I All-Americans will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Jan. 12, 2019 at McCormick Place West Building in conjunction with the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago.
She is the lone representative from the Big 12 and the only Texas native to be named to the first team.
One of the most respected midfielders in the country, Julie James has left her mark on the Baylor program as one of the best all-around student-athletes to ever play for the Bears.
On the field, the two-time team captain leaves BU as a three-time All-Big 12 First Team and three-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection, and was invited to the 2018 U.S. Women's National Team U-23 Training Camp earlier this spring. She has played more career minutes (7809) than any player in program history, finishing among the Top 10 in the program's career goal and point scorers.
Tasked with facilitating both the Baylor offense and defense out of the midfield, James has led the Bears to the program's first-ever NCAA Elite 8 in 2017 and a return trip in 2018, winning both the Big 12 tournament title in 2017 and the regular season title in 2018.
In the classroom, James has been just as elite, earning four Academic All-Big 12, six Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, five Baylor Dean's List, and a 2017 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America selection.
She has maintained a 3.74 GPA as a Baylor Business Fellows, Entrepreneurship and Economics triple-major.
