Senior midfielder first in program history among final 15 for top national honor
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Baylor soccer senior midfielder Julie James was announced as one of the 15 women's semifinalists for the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I soccer coaches.
The Fairview, Texas, native is the first student-athlete in program history to stand among the final 15 considered for the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer.
She is the lone representative from both the Big 12 and the State of Texas to be named one of the semifinalists for the 2018 trophy.
Three women's finalists will be named on Dec. 7 in conjunction with the Men's College Cup semifinals in Santa Barbara, Calif. The 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 4, 2019 to formally announce this year's winners.
One of the most respected midfielders in the country, Julie James has left her mark on the Baylor program as one of the best all-around student-athletes to ever play for the Bears.
On the field, the two-time team captain leaves BU as a three-time All-Big 12 First Team and three-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region selection, and was invited to the 2018 U.S. Women's National Team U-23 Training Camp earlier this spring. She has played more career minutes (7809) than any player in program history, finishing among the Top 10 in the program's career goal and point scorers.
Tasked with facilitating both the Baylor offense and defense out of the midfield, James has led the Bears to the program's first-ever NCAA Elite 8 in 2017 and a return trip in 2018, winning both the Big 12 tournament title in 2017 and the regular season title in 2018.
In the classroom, James has been just as elite, earning four Academic All-Big 12, six Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, five Baylor Dean's List, and a 2017 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America selection.
She has maintained a 3.74 GPA as a Baylor Business Fellows, Entrepreneurship and Economics triple-major.
