THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas - Baylor soccer (4-0-1) kept its unblemished 4-0 record in 2017 at home, defeating the Ball State Cardinals (1-4-0) on Sunday afternoon at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.

Locked in another defensive gridlock throughout the match, it took until the 78th minute for the Bears to break through.

After a scrum developed outside of the box, Jackie Crowther broke away from the pack to the left side and laced in a 15-yard goal to the right back half of the net for the gamewinner.

Jennifer Wandt (2-0) played her second match between the pipes, keeping her perfect unblemished record with back-to-back solo shutouts.

NOTES
*Jackie Crowther scored her team-leading third goal of the season and her second gamewinning goal for the team.

*Jennifer Wandt earned the solo shutout victory for the Bears in her second match as the starting goalkeeper.

*Baylor's one goal allowed through the first five matches is the fewest allowed by a Baylor team since 2013.

STAT OF THE MATCH

QUOTES OF THE MATCH
"I'm super proud of the defense. I think we've been really solid throughout the beginning part of our season. It's just super important. Soccer is obviously a team effort and we just have to work hard to keep the shots out of the goal. Our midfielders, our forwards are working super hard to put it in the goal and we've just got to continue to protect our goalie, protect our team, save everyone some running and just do our jobs." - Baylor senior Precious Akanyirige

"I'm very thankful and blessed to get the opportunity to come back in and help finish out the end of the game. I think we were all pressing so hard, we had around 15 shots, so we knew it was going to come we just didn't know when. I just found the open pass, it came to me and I looked for the pass and saw the back of the goal. I was definitely more calm than usual." - Baylor junior Jackie Crowther

"They're really going to be, and they always have been here, the unsung heroes of our team. They just locked down really well and didn't give them a sniff. Sometimes, the tough thing for a goalkeeper is when you don't get anything all day and then you get the one opportunity. But that just kind of shows the maturity of a young goalkeeper. It didn't really faze her. So, I'm proud of her, proud of that back line and the two defensive midfielders that played really well today, Julie and Ally did a great job just kind of holding things down." - Baylor head coach Paul Jobson

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor hits the road for its longest road kick of the season, travelling to Portland, Ore., to take on Portland and Washington on Sept. 8 and 10 in the tournament hosted by the University of Portland.
