Aug. 28, 2017 IRVING, Texas - Baylor volleyball senior Camryn Freiberg has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
This is the first career weekly award for Freiberg and the first defensive award for a Baylor player since Nov. 7, 2016 where Jana Brusek earned the honor.
The 5-11 middle hitter from Allen, Texas led the Big 12 with 18 total blocks in the Bears' first three matches last weekend. Her 2.00 blocks per set leads the league as she was named the Hampton Inn & Suites Waco North Baylor Invitational's best blocker on Sunday.
On Friday, Freiberg totaled nine blocks vs. Florida State.
Freiberg helped BU (2-1) hold its opponents to a .069 hitting percentage over the weekend, including Illinois State's .000 attack effort and UC Santa Barbara's -.009 percentage. Baylor swept both of those matches in three sets.
Offensively, Freiberg had 19 kills last weekend, including eight vs. Florida State.
Baylor had a record-setting eight weekly honors last season.
