WACO, Texas - Baylor equestrian secured four selections to the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) All-America Teams, announced Thursday by the organization.
The Baylor flat team headlined the selections, with Savannah Jenkins, Alicia Gasser, and Rachel Van Allen all repeating to earn spots on the All-America teams.
On the Western side, Abbi Demel was the lone selection for BU, taking first team honors in horsemanship. Demel's selection marks the first time a BU Western rider has earned first team All-America honors since 2014, when Bryn Lindley took a spot on the first team in horsemanship.
For Hunt Seat, Jenkins earned first team, while Gasser and Van Allen notched second team selections.
Jenkins earns her third All-American award in the flat, having previously been selected in the 2016 and 2014 seasons.
Demel, the only underclassman in the group, picked up her first All-American honors after a stellar sophomore season.
For Gasser, the second team selection is the fourth of her career, earning first team in 2016 and honorable mentions the two years prior.
Van Allen picked up second team recognition for the second-consecutive season, with the junior continuing to improve through her collegiate career.
The top-four riders per discipline were selected and named First-Team All-America by the NCEA Selection Committee. The next four riders per discipline were named Second-Team All-America, while Honorable Mention All-Americans were selected via established statistical criteria.
The 2017 NCEA National Championship presented by City of Waco & McLennan County will take place April 13-15 at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas. It marks the 11th consecutive year that Baylor, partnered with the City of Waco & McLennan Country, has hosted the national championship.
