Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew
Opening Statement...
"With us the biggest thing is controlling what we can control and winning the games that we have. Today we got out to a much better start than we did last Saturday at home, and I think we were much more intent on trying to have a better effort for 40 minutes. We were able to do that. We didn't make all our shots, but we took care of the basketball and we defended. We rebounded and this is a very good TCU team, so we knew we had to play well, but we were more focused on our energy."
On team's defensive performance...
"Well second half wasn't as good, but the first half was. People are going to miss some shots when you hold them to 23% shooting. In the second half, we weren't as good, and they made some. But again, for the game you hold them to 37% and 52 points, you have to like your chances. Coming off last Saturday's home game we're so focused on our energy and being more intent and better, and we were able to do that."
On King McClure...
King has been tremendous. He's healthy. He's been injured during the course of this season and that's affected some of his play, but we have confidence in him. Why we've been successful is because we've had different guys step up and we've got a lot of parts. The good thing is that everybody is very unselfish out there and nobody cares about who gets the credit or who gets the plays.
Sophomore G King McClure
On team's improved performance since last week...
On his first half play...
"Yeah I was just in the zone. Motley had a few nice passes in my direction. He told me to get open and keep shooting. It just gave me confidence. I just wanted to get out to a good start and do whatever I could to help my team win."
Junior F Johnathan Motley
On his performance...
"I was just making sure I was aggressive, making sure I was finishing above the rim as much as I could. Basically, just taking my teammates passes and making sure I'm finishing so I can give those guys assists. I did a good job of finishing today for sure."
On teammates making shots from the outside...
It helps a ton. I always tell them to shoot because the more they shoot and the more they make shots, it opens one-on-one opportunities for me. We just complement each other. When I'm scoring down low, those guys will get the open shots, and then when they're hitting shots I have a chance to go and do my thing. We just complement each other well and I always tell them to stay aggressive and I'm going to stay aggressive as well.
TCU POSTGAME QUOTES
TCU Head Coach Jamie Dixon
On difficulty guarding the three-point shot...
"We just made mistakes. I mean the obvious was that we didn't do what we were supposed to do and McClure killed us. He hasn't played much and gone out and put up big numbers, but he gets his team up early and gives them eight points to start the game and that obviously puts us in a hole."
On Jaylen Fisher...
"He's shooting the ball better, he's making open shots, he just has to continue taking good shots and let it come. I thought he did that in the second half, he was making open shots, but we just got to get him to improve defensively and take care of the ball."
On Motley matchup...
"Our defense helped a lot today so we'll take credit for some of that, but he's long and he plays hard. I'm just impressed with how much he's gotten better. I don't know his history as much, but you know it seems to be that guys who play hard get better and he fits into that category."
TCU Guard Jaylen Fisher
On not being more competitive today...
"I honestly don't know. I would probably say the effort, but I felt like we were playing hard. Things just weren't going our way."
TCU Forward Kenrich Williams
On expectations coming into this game...
"Yeah we definitely were expecting better. We got out-worked tonight defensively on the board, it's just surprising and it's a little bit of an embarrassment for me being from Waco, but we just have to keep working and get ready for Oklahoma State."
On Baylor's defense...
"We had some open shots, we just missed some. They've got two great shot blockers so they alter shots when we go to the rim, but I mean overall they are a great defensive team. At the end of the day we just have to hit shots and that's what we'll work on come Wednesday."
