Oct. 9, 2017 LEXINGTON, Ky. - After a 2-0 week in conference action, Baylor volleyball made its first appearance in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll since 2009 by cracking the list at No. 25 Monday afternoon.
The Bears (15-4, 5-1 Big 12) are ranked for the 21st time in program history and first since being ranked No. 24 on Nov. 21, 2009. During that season, BU was ranked for 10 straight weeks and peaked at No. 17, which still stands as the program high ranking in the 35-year history of the AVCA poll.
Baylor has recorded wins over two ranked opponents this season, besting then-No. 10 BYU in five sets on Sept. 9 and sweeping then-No. 20 Iowa State in Ames last Wednesday.
Baylor is the fourth ranked Big 12 team behind No. 5 Texas, No. 9 Kansas and No. 23 Iowa State.
This is the first time that the Bears are ranked under third-year head coach Ryan McGuyre. The Bears first cracked the top 25 in 1999, finishing 20th.
With its new ranking, Baylor has a midweek bye before traveling to face Kansas State Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan, Kan.
