Looking for its first win over a top-5 ranked opponent in 19 years, the Baylor soccer team will face fourth-ranked and defending Big 12 champion West Virginia at 6 p.m. CDT Friday in Morgantown, W. Va.

But, don't look for the Bears (8-3-1, 1-0-1) or coach Paul Jobson to approach this game against the Mountaineers (8-1-1, 0-0-0) any differently than their previous 12 games this season.

"You can't go into the rest of the season saying we approach every game the same way, and then face the No. 4 team in the country and say something different," Jobson said. "We're going to face this the same way we do every other team and prepare the way we prepare and we'll be who we are when we get there."

What the Bears have been is a good road team with a 4-3-0 record that includes Sunday's 2-1 overtime victory at Oklahoma State and one-goal losses at Michigan State and Auburn.

"With the games we scheduled this year . . . we try to prepare ourselves for conference and prepare us for teams like Texas and Oklahoma State and West Virginia and all the teams in our conference," Jobson said. "These kids are excited to play. They're competitors, they want to win, and they want to win big games. So, they should be excited. That's why they're here on this team."

Baylor is 0-3-1 all-time against West Virginia, with last year's game in Waco canceled because of inclement weather.

"Honestly, I'm so excited to play them," said sophomore forward Lauren Piercy, who leads the Big 12 with six goals and ranks No. 2 nationally with five game-winning goals. "I was so nervous last year, like, `Oh my gosh, West Virginia, a really good team.' But thinking about it now, we have nothing to lose. They're ranked No. 4 in the nation. We just come out as hard as we always come out, go for the win and see what happens."

West Virginia followed up its only loss - 1-0 at home to No. 6 Georgetown - with a convincing 4-1 road victory at Richmond last weekend.

The Bears are coming off a home-road split weekend that saw them tie Texas, 1-1, in double overtime last Friday before coming back with the 2-1 OT win at Oklahoma State.

"When you can get four points in a weekend during conference, that's big," Jobson said. "Normally, you think you're going to get three (points) at home and hopefully get one on the road. But obviously, every game is tough in this conference. And to come off of a weekend with four points at the beginning of conference play, I think that's a huge thing. Coming back with three points from a road game is big-time for us."

Baylor continues its difficult road stretch with games next weekend at Oklahoma on Friday and Texas Tech on Sunday before closing out with home games against TCU, Iowa State and Kansas.
