April 7, 2016 WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" The Baylor women's golf team is headed to Tempe, Ariz., to play in the PING/ASU Invitational, hosted by Arizona State University. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Friday through Sunday at the par-72, 6,337-yard ASU Karsten Golf Club.
The tournament will be played on the club's blue and gold courses, both designed by Jack Nicklaus. Most notably, the blue course played host to the 1963 PGA Championship.
The Bears enter the PING/ASU Invitational ranked No. 54 nationally in the latest GolfStat rankings after tying its season-best with a fifth-place finish at the Dallas Athletic Club Invitational. BU also tied for fifth at the Wildcat Invitational, giving BU back-to-back top-five finishes.
The Bears' lineup features Laura Lonardi, Maria Vesga, Giovana Maymon, Maggie Beth Byers and Lauren Whyte. Friday's first round is scheduled for tee times beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
The Bears are paired with players from UCLA and Northwestern. Whyte will be the first of the Bears to tee-off, beginning her round at 10:30 a.m. CT. She'll be followed in nine-minute intervals by Byers, Maymon, Vesga and Lonardi, respectively.
The 14-team field includes tournament-host No. 11 Arizona State, No. 1 Alabama, No. 10 Arizona, Baylor, No. 31 Colorado, Denver, Hawaii, No. 4 Northwestern, Oregon State, No. 29 Texas, No. 3 UCLA, No. 17 UNLV, No. 13 Washington and Washington State.
