Last week at the Ricardo Romo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, the Bears racked up 11 event titles. The event titles, eight for the women and three for the men, propelled the women to a second-place finish in the team standings with 165 points, while the men were third with 115 points. Pole vaulter Annie Rhodes highlighted the event titles by producing a school-record clearance of 14-7.25 [4.45m]. Rhodes, who owns all 10 of the top outdoor clearances in school history, bettered her own previous school record of 14-4.5 [4.38m]. The new mark is also a qualifying clearance for the 2016 USA Olympic Trials.
The women's team was ranked No. 19 in the first USTFCCCA rankings of the outdoor season, while the men were 43rd.
The women have eight marks that currently rank in the NCAA top 20 for the 2016 outdoor season. Rhodes leads that group as her school record vault in San Antonio is the third-best clearance in the country.
Triple jumper Rachel Toliver has the NCAA's fifth-best mark, after jumping 42-2.75 [12.87m] at the season-opening TCU Invitational. Other athletes in the top 20 include Kiana Horton, who is ranked in both the 100 (7th) and 200-meter (14th) dashes with times of 11.31 and 23.31, respectively. Meanwhile, Taylor Bennett joins Horton on the 200-meter list at No. 6 with a time of 23.23. Finally, Cion Hicks' third-place shot put throw at the Ricardo Romo meet of 53-1.75 [16.20m] ranks her 16th in the land. Both of Baylor's women's relays, the 4x1 and 4x4, are top 20 with the sprint group at No. 13 in 44.63 and the quartemile crew at No. 11 in 3:37.97.
On the men's side, three marks are top-20 in the NCAA, after two weeks of competition. The men's 4x400-meter relay is second in the country with a time of 3:05.23, while Desmine Hilliard is 10th in the discus at 185-7 [56.57m] and Rhys Phillips is 18th with a mark of 14.00 in the 110-meter hurdles.
