THE RUNDOWN
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Two Baylor track and field decathletes opened the Ricardo Romo Invitational by competing in five events Thursday at the Park West Athletics Complex.
Through half of the decathlon events, sophomore Hunter Powell is currently third among the field of six collegiate athletes with 3,212 points, while junior Chase Hood is fourth with 3,082 points.
On a windy day, Powell was the second finisher in both the 100-meter dash (11.33) and the 400-meter run (51.71). Meanwhile, Hood's best event was the long jump with a mark of 21-0.75 [6.42m], which was second-best on the day.
WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will continue its participation at the meet on Friday. The conclusion of the decathlon competition begins at 11 a.m. and Desmine Hilliard will take part in the men's shot put event at 2 p.m., followed by Cion Hicks in the women's shot put competition.
