FRESNO, Calif. - No. 4 Baylor equestrian (12-3, 5-1 Big 12) closed regular season play, winning the Fresno Invitational with victories over No. 10 Fresno State (3-9, 3-2 United), 13-5, on Friday, and South Dakota State (4-7, 2-2 United), 10-5, on Saturday at the Student Horse Center.
On Friday, the Bears got a quick lead, besting the Bulldogs in fences, 4-1.
Marissa Kinnally earned her point after defeating Sierra Swaffar, 69-58, Savannah Jenkins defeated Paige Pastorino, 81-66, Alicia Gasser defeated Alex Peltier, 83-70, and Paige Parker defeated Kylina Chalack, 77-76. Gasser earned the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honor for the event.
The Bears took a slim advantage on horsemanship, winning the event, 3-2.
Charlotte Green defeated Rachel Williams, 71-68, Bray Bergstrom defeated Taylor Dixon, 71.5-71, and Mary Brown defeated Taeya Harle, 73.5-72. Brown earned the MOP nodb for the event.
In the flat, Baylor came out ahead, 2-1. Jenkins defeated Chalack, 77-76, and Rachel Van Allen defeated Genna Fogelberg, 74-65. Van Allen earned the MOP nod.
BU closed the meet with reining, taking the final event, 4-1. Elizabeth Shank defeated Dixon, 72.5-69.5, Charlotte Green defeated Kayli Gobeli, 70.5-67, Ginger Chant defeated Aly Frias, 70.5-68, and Mary Brown defeat Sydney Elliott, 68-66. Brown was the MOP honoree for this event. Splitting its meet with South Dakota State over Friday and Saturday, Baylor competed through the flat and reining events on Friday afternoon, finishing up with horsemanship and fences on Saturday.
In the flat, BU blanked the Jackrabbits, 4-0. Jenkins took the MOP honors, after defeating Jacey Chorlton, 76-61. Kinnally defeated Taylor Duerr, 74-67, Van Allen took on Marielle Golden, 69-67, and Gasser defeated Jessica Andronowitz, 77-72.
Baylor narrowly beat out SDSU in reining, 2-1, closing out the first half of the meet.
In reining, Green defeated Mariah Wright, 70-69.5, and Shank defeated Miranda Sullivan, 71.5-69.5.
The early lead paid off, with BU and SDSU splitting the remaining events, 2-2, in both equation over fences and horsemanship.
In fences, Parker took down Duerr, 76-68, and Jenkins defeated Andronowitz, 79-70.
In horsemanship, Brown defeated Lexus Hoffman, 72-68.5, and Green defeated Angela Lopez, 71.5-63.5. Brown also earned the MOP honor for the event.
