March 16, 2016 Head Coach Art Briles
On all the first round picks Baylor has had recently:
"They're brand-changers and brand-makers. The reason we have a lot of guys that are potential first-rounders now are because of what they did.
On if this was the biggest Baylor Pro Day ever:
"I think it's close ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" 2012 was big. We had a bunch of people here watching, but this certainly ranks up as one of the top two. It's a big day. I think we're a little deeper. We had five draft choices that year. I suspect we'll have a minimum of five this year. I think we might be a little deeper than we were then."
On guys that helped their stock today:
"I think [Xavien] Howard really helped himself, I think [Shawn] Oakman helped himself, [Andrew] Billings really ran well, Jay Lee did well. Blake Muir wasn't able to run, which that's really where he shines, but he jumped well and did some things. I think [Jarell] Broxton did well. These guys, they'll move up the charts. We have good football players. That's why we've been able to do what we've done on the field."
On memories of first Pro Day compared to now:
"Well, it would have been me and you sitting in a corner talking to ourselves, first and foremost. It's just entirely different. Coach [Kaz] Kazadi, they do a great job putting on Pro Day. Our support staff is unbelievable. So, I think all these NFL scouts that have come here over the years have gotten accustomed to coming to Baylor, seeing how we do things. When we do things, we do it right ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" on the field, off the field and Pro Day. So that's something that I think really catches the eye of all these people. For us, it's another opportunity to showcase our student-athletes.
On if he thinks Corey Coleman should be the first receiver drafted:
"Of course I do. Yeah, that's an easy answer. You look at production on the field over a three-year period ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" we're not talking about 18 months, we're talking about three years. So, yeah, his production has been pretty much unmatched over the last three years. Unquestionably, he'll be if not the first, he'll be the first or second."
On Andrew Billings:
"Unbelievable. It's who he is. He's extremely talented. What did he run? 4.8 range today [in the 40-yard dash]. He looked real good running, I thought. I've seen him track down people before, so it didn't surprise me. He's really doing well, I'm really proud of him."
On LaQuan McGowan:
"You're talking about my baby. LaQuan, it's only been 40 years, but he's the most intriguing athlete I've ever been around. So the next 40, maybe there will be somebody else. But for the first 40, he's the most intriguing guy I've ever, ever been around in coaching football, and a tremendous human being to go with it."
On the early entrants to the NFL Draft:
"We kind of knew Corey [Coleman] was going to come out. [Xavien Howard], we had a feeling there late in the season. [Andrew] Billings was probably the biggest surprise there late. But then when we got to looking at it and saw his draft projections, we were like OK, let's go. If you're going to go, go high. That's the way we're looking at it. He did a great job for us in three years. We're thankful for that time."
Shawn Oakman
On what round he'll get picked in:
"You have standards for what round you think you should go, but that's not up to you. Being able to help and provide for my family is the major goal. I have the most confidence that I deserve to be in the first round, but it's not up to me. It's up to everyone else."
On his senior year:
"I definitely could have done better. I wish I could have done better, but it's over now. I had a great sophomore and junior year. I can just take that, and show them what I got when I get there."
On his future career:
"I haven't even come near to touching the ceiling. I've still got a lot of growth to gain, so I'm happy about the process that I'm able to go through."
Andrew Billings
On how much he helped himself here and at the combine:
"I feel like I helped myself a lot at the combine, all the coaches got to see me. But here, I think I really proved myself here with that 40 time and the three-cone drill."
On how much of a goal it is for him to be a first round pick:
"It's definitely one of the biggest goals going into the draft, but I'll be happy just to be drafted."
On how he feels about his Baylor career:
"Good. I really do. Coming here, I wanted to be an All-American in college, and I got that ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" that was my number one goal."
Spencer Drango
On what he's hoping for:
"It's still pretty early. I know it seems late, but free agency is still going on. It's pretty crazy early on so once it all settles down, I'll get a better feel of what teams need what and where I can fit in best."
On moving inside:
"At the Senior Bowl, I mostly worked right and left tackle. Moving inside is actually not that big of a change. It's a little bit quicker and there are bigger bodies inside. It's a little different but the change shouldn't be too bad. It's just a matter of getting those muscle memory reps in. I see myself as a tackle first and foremost, but I'm not above moving inside at all. If I need to move inside and learn how to stop right and left, I can do whatever, as long as it helps the team succeed."
Xavien Howard
On improving his running time:
"That was the most important thing that I was looking forward to. During training, I was working on my footing a lot."
On why he's entering the draft:
"I felt like I was ready. I started two years here and saw a lot of improvement, so I feel ready."
Corey Coleman
On how the process is going:
"It's been pretty great. I enjoyed getting to come out here and really showcase my talent to all the coaches."
On his performance today:
"I'm pretty happy, especially coming off the sports hernia surgery. I'm about 90 percent, but I can do everything."
On whether he is the best receiver in the draft:
"I feel like I'm the best receiver in the draft. I can do pretty much everything. Punt return, kick return, I can play inside receiver, and I can play outside receiver."
On the draft process:
"We've still got some business to do, but I'm excited about the process. You only get to do this one time, so you have to enjoy it and have fun doing it. It can tear you down sometimes, but there aren't too many people in my shoes, so I have to have fun and enjoy it."
