Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On switching Khadijiah Cave to a starting spotà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I just thought (Khadijiah Cave) was good at Tennessee. The kid was 5-for-5 from the field, she went to the offensive boards, got quick putbacks, she deserved to play. I challenged the three bigs today to practice, and it's not all about offense. It's about focus and game preparation. Sometimes we fail to remember those kids are two sophomores and a freshman. As I tell them, expectations from me sometimes may be tough and may be harder than I should be, but if I don't expect it, I won't get it out of you as early as I need to. It wasn't a demotion (for Beatrice Mompremier), it wasn't a trip to the dog house, I just thought KK should be rewarded by starting."
On Calveion Landrum's stat lineà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I love it. In timeouts tonight I wanted her coming off the zone. She has a knack for making good passes. She's coming along at the pace I expected, her defense is coming along more aggressive and better, she's working her hands on the ball. She's very explosive on the open floor. If we get a turnover or rebound, you better be ready to go because Juicy will look up the floor quickly and I love that about her game."
Freshman Natalie Chou
On shooting well tonightà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I shot well because Juicy passed to me every time I shot. So shout out to her for looking for me, and then I shot it. Getting open looks was the main thing."
Senior Alexis Prince
On starting off slowà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I don't think there was any reason for the slow start, but the second group came in and they got the job done."
On Natalie Chou's progressà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Natalie showed a lot of confidence today, that's what we've been wanting her to do is shoot the ball. You never know if it's going in unless you shoot it. Tonight she was confident and hopefully she can keep doing that down the line."
Texas State Head Coach Zenarae Antoine
On staying close in the first quarterà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"The one thing that Baylor does well is knock down shots early. We forced reversals. We forced them to move the ball and to go ahead and take an initial shot. We just struggled with the putbacks and the rebounding piece of it. As far as executing and what we plan to do for that ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" it's to not allow shots in the paint with their initial shots. We did a good job of executing that, and I'm proud of my kids for that."
On Baylor's size and speedà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"It's difficult. To me, this is a Final Four team. I think they're moving in the right direction for sure. I think the one thing that you have to do is play a little bit outside of yourself in a positive way, and sometimes you find that extra energy, that burst of speed to be able to go ahead initially ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" shot's going up and being able to push (Baylor) back under the rim. Those types of things are really important, and then our guards can snatch those rebounds versus their bigs. That's what we have to continue to work on because that's an Achilles heel, regardless of what we need to work on."
On struggling offensivelyà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"The disappointing piece is that we got to Texas State shots, and those are shots that we generally knock down. To only score five points in one half was really, really tough largely because we pride ourselves on signing kids who can put the ball in the hole. They struggled tonight. The tough part is that a team like this, when it's not falling, is figuring it out on the defensive end. It's tough against a team that executes so well, and their eyes are on something bigger."
