BAYLOR QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the size advantage for Baylorà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Look, we're big. We've got a lot of bigs and they need to touch the ball right out of the gates. Whether they shoot it or not they need to get touches." On Beatrice Mompremierà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"She has multiple moves and it's sometimes hard to get girls to do that. They'll just do one move and then shoot. She'll make her move and then she'll make her countermove and that's just impressive. I'd like to tell you that I could take credit for that, but Beatrice had that move down before she got here."
On Natalie Chouà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I thought Natalie looked a little bit more relaxed. She looked like she was, 'Okay, I got this'. That's what you want to see. You want to see freshmen be able to go into a game and not hurt you. She just seemed like it is finally clicking for her."
Senior Nina Davis
On Baylor's young playersà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They've grown a lot, thanks to me in practice, from having to guard me. They are incredible players. They came in already great and they just had to get adjusted to the speed of the game, and learn how to play hard all the time."
On the unselfish nature of the teamà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We are a team with a lot of depth. We have a lot of different scorers. I just think this team in general is not selfish. We don't care who gets the credit, we just all have one common goal and it's getting to the Final Four and potentially playing for a national championship. Whatever my team needs me to do, I'll do to help us finally get over that hump."
Sophomore Kalani Brown
On overcoming early foul troubleà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I picked up those first two quick fouls in the first half, and sitting there, you just have time to think about what you could have done. I've got to play smarter, and when she gave me that chance in the third quarter, I just did what I do best."
Houston Baptist Head Coach Donna Finnie
On playing Baylor...
"We knew coming into this game that they are obviously a super talented team. I told Coach Mulkey at the end there that we're excited to see them at the end in Dallas this year, because they're going to be a tremendous force. I think with the additions that they have of their freshmen, like the stretch Natalie Chou had at the end was really, really good, and we struggled because we gave her open looks and she did a good job of reading our defense and attacking the rim. Lauren Cox is obviously a very talented big. I think those two in particular really help them with their rotations."
On matching up on defense...
"I think going into the game we were telling our kids that we have to be aggressive, we have to attack, but we're not used to seeing that size on ball pressure. Alexis Prince is so big that our guards on the wings couldn't see the next pass, which is not something we'll really face in our conference, but we knew coming in it would be an issue today. Initially, it bothered our kids obviously, but I think in the second half we started to make reads a little better. It's one of those things that we don't have the size in practice every day so it's a bit of a shock initially for our kids. Our assistant coach Justin Jones has been doing a good job the last couple of weeks stepping in on the scout team and trying to be the big. It was a great lesson for us. We go to Texas on Wednesday and we're going to see some bigs there, too. Obviously, they have some great talent out there in the post. For our kids, it was a great learning experience, and for us we can work on things to make sure we get better every game."
