WACO, Texas - Baylor track and field sprinter Trayvon Bromell will compete as a member of Team USA at the IAAF World Championships, which run Saturday through Aug. 30 in Beijing, China.

After earning a spot on the national team by placing second in the 100 meters with a time of 9.96 (0.0m/s) at June's USATF Outdoor Championships, Bromell will start his world run Saturday at 6:20 a.m. CT. Lane assignments for the heats of the 100-meters will be determined once preliminary round action is concluded earlier Saturday.

By virtue of his qualifying time, Bromell will not have to run in that preliminary action.

"It's my first appearance, and I want to have fun with it and also learn from it," Bromell said. "As long as I'm staying focused and running my race, I'll be happy with it. I dreamed about it when I was younger. It really was all about keeping the faith. I knew that if I stayed strong that this opportunity would come."

The field for the 100 meters includes some of the world's top runners, such as Usain Bolt, Justin Gaitlin and the United States champion Tyson Gay.

"We've just got to take it round by round and have fun with it," Baylor associate coach Michael Ford said. "He doesn't really have a lot to lose, and that's a position where he can do well. I think the goal from very early in the season was to just go out and run your best, and the result will take care of itself.

If Bromell advances out of his heat, the event's semifinal will be Sunday at 6:10 a.m. CT and the 100-meter final will be later that same day at 8:15 a.m. CT.

Bromell is also slated to be a part of the United States' 4x100-meter relay quartet, which would run Friday, Aug. 28, at 11:20 p.m. CT.

This year, Bromell's best is a 9.76 (3.7m/s), which he ran in the USATF Championships semifinal. That time was a personal best. It also tied for No. 3 all-time in collegiate history in all-conditions. Heading into that national meet, Bromell's qualifying time of 9.90 came in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships. He concluded his collegiate sophomore season by placing second in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA outdoor meet in a wind-aided time of 9.88.

Last year, Bromell won the 100-meter title at the USA Junior Championships in a wind-legal 10.07 and took the NCAA crown in a wind-aided 9.97.

The IAAF World Championships air live on the NBC family of networks, with coverage spanning across NBC, Universal Sports, and NBC Live Extra. Broadcast coverage begins live at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, August 21 with the men's marathon.

Broadcast television coverage of Bromell's races can be seen on tape delay at 2 p.m. CT Saturday and 12 p.m. CT Sunday. To watch the events live visit universalsports.com.
