July 21, 2015 NEW ORLEANS - The Baylor men's and women's track and field teams, along with 12 individuals earned All-Academic recognition from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced recently.
As a team, Baylor claimed honors on both sides, while 11 women and one man were honored individually for their combined work in the classroom and in competitions.
For the women, seniors Lauren Cook, Rachel Johnson, Kehri Jones, and Raena Rhone, juniors Justise Dayries and Jenna Pfeiffer, sophomores Maggie Montoya, Jessica Purtell and Annie Rhodes, and freshmen Kiana Hawn and Juanita Mainoo.
Rhone was honored for a fourth-straight year, while Johnson earned her third USTFCCCA track academic honor and Cook, Pfeiffer, Montoya and Rhodes each were recognized for a second time.
On the men's side, the lone individual to be honored was senior Richard Hansen, who majors in engineering.
As a team, the women were one of 224 programs to receive recognition, while maintaining a 3.33 overall team GPA. The men recorded a team GPA mark of 3.13 to be one of 123 teams garnering All-Academic status.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
