NEW ORLEANS - For a second-straight year, Baylor track and field sprinter Trayvon Bromell has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Bowerman Trophy, the Bowerman Watch List Committee announced on Monday.

The Bowerman Trophy, which was first awarded in 2009, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation.

The St. Petersburg, Fla., product followed up his breakout freshman campaign with a sensational sophomore season.

The highlight of Bromell's 2015 year came in March when he won the NCAA Indoor 200-meter title with a world-leading time of 20.19. It tied for the No. 5 performance in world history behind only Frank Fredericks (19.92, 20.10 and 20.18) and Wallace Spearmon (20.10 and 20.19). The BU sprinter also tied Spearmon's 20.19 for the second-fastest American and collegiate performances of all-time.

He ended his collegiate season by earning All-American honors in both the 100 and 200-meter events June 12 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Bromell ran a personal-best time of 9.88 (2.7m/s) to finish second in the 100 meters and then 45 minutes later he finished third in the 200 meters in a personal-best time of 19.86 (2.4m/s). His 9.90 in the 100 semifinals was just a tenth of a second shy of the wind-legal collegiate record, and his wind-aided 19.86 in the 200 final was the fifth fastest ever by a collegian in all conditions.

With his NCAA performances, Bromell became the first Baylor male athlete to earn All-American honors in two individual events at the same NCAA Outdoor Championships since Bill Martineson did so in the 100 and 220-yard dashes in 1946 and 1947.

Bromell won a total of three Big 12 titles in 2015, claiming the indoor 200-meter crown and sweeping the 100 and 200-meter races at the outdoor conference meet. He became only the second BU male athlete to win two individual events at the Big 12's outdoor meet (Brandon Couts won the 200 and 400-meter races in 1998).

Bromell is one of only three men to repeat as a Bowerman semifinalist, joining Oregon's Edward Cheserek and Florida's Marquis Dendy.

The other seven athletes up for the award include: Shawn Barber (Akron), Andre De Grasse (USC), Conor McCullough (USC), Omar McLeod (Arkansas), Vernon Norwood (LSU), Michael Stigler (Kansas) and Maicel Uibo (Georgia).

This season, Bromell has already been named the Big 12 Men's Track & Field Performer of the Year as well as the USTFCCCA South Central Regional Men's Track Athlete of the Year.

Bromell has been on the Bowerman Award watch list throughout the season, garnering a spot on the preseason list in early January and then appearing on the other seven watch lists throughout the year. The sophomore is the only Baylor athlete to ever earn appear on a Bowerman watch list.

Three finalists for the Bowerman honor will be announced on July 8.

Bromell will be back in action in Eugene, Ore.at the USA Outdoor Championships, which run June 25-28.
