THE RUNDOWN
AMES, Iowa - On the first day of the Big 12 Championships, the Baylor track and field team produced a pair of All-Big 12 performances at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
In the pole vault, Annie Rhodes set another school-record by clearing 14-4.5 [4.38m] to place second and earn her second-straight All-Big 12 outdoor honor. The sophomore Bear battled eventual champion, Kaitlin Petrillose of Texas, jump for jump just as she had done at the indoor conference meet.
Petrillose missed on her first attempt at 4.38m, while Rhodes cleared it, prompting the UT senior to pass on her next two attempts at the height. Both vaulters then missed on their first attempt at 4.43m, before Petrillose cleared and Rhodes missed again. The BU sophomore then passed on her final attempt at the eight to move up to 4.48m. She missed at that height to end her run in the competition.
A year ago, Rhodes cleared only 13-0.25 [3.97m] to take third at the conference's outdoor meet. On Friday, she bettered her own previous school-record in the event, which she set at the 2015 Texas Relays 14-3.25 [4.35m].
In the javelin, Richard Hansen recorded his third consecutive All-Big 12 performance. Hansen, a senior, carded his best throw and personal-best mark on his fifth toss with a heave of 205-2 [62.54m]. However, Hansen's best throw didn't move him up in the standings as he remained seventh.
On the opening day of the multi-events, Baylor's heptathlon and decathlon athletes put themselves in position for more All-Big 12 honors on day two.
Through four events in the heptathlon, sophomore Carly Grandcolas is third with 3,131 points and junior Jenna Pfeiffer is sixth with 3,024 points.
Grandcolas set personal-bests in the high jump (5-5.75 [1.67m]), the shot put (37-1 [11.30m]) and the 200 meters (25.07). Meanwhile, Pfeiffer shined in the high jump where she set a personal best and tied the eighth-best mark in school history with a leap of 5-9.25 [1.76m].
In the decathlon, senior Hunter Brook is seventh with 3,620 points. Brook had the meet's second best marks in the shot put (43-10.5 [13.37m]) and the high jump (6-4 [1.93m], while setting a personal-best in the 100-meter dash (11.45).
OTHER NOTABLES
• Chase Hood was 10th in the pole vault with a leap of 16-0.75 [5.05m].

TOP QUOTE #1
"It was a solid day for us and we will be ready to roll tomorrow. Today was kind of light day for us, but tomorrow is a big day. We have a lot on the docket for tomorrow." - head coach Todd Harbour on the day
TOP QUOTE #2
"I thought it was one of the best days we have ever had for our multis on the women's side. They did an outstanding job. Carly (Grandcolas) was amazing to PR in three of the four events that she did. Jenna also had a solid day with a great PR in the high jump and they are both in good position for tomorrow." - Harbour on the women's multis
TOP QUOTE #3
"Hunter (Brook) did a super job getting through the first day. He has had a tough time the last couple years staying healthy. It was good to see him perform well and I know he is going to have a big day tomorrow. Richard came back and got a PR in the javelin, so he had a great throw there. Of course, Annie (Rhodes) with a PR in the pole vault." - head coach Todd Harbour on other athletes that shined
