May 1, 2015 LONGHORN INVITATIONAL MEET CENTRAL | PAYTON JORDAN INVITATIONAL MEET CENTRAL
WACO, Texas - To close out its 2015 regular season, Baylor's track and field teams will have athletes taking part in both the Longhorn Invitational and the Payton Jordan Invitational Saturday.
The majority of BU's team, 47 athletes in all, will compete in Austin for the second time in the outdoor season and on the same track where the NCAA West Preliminary Championships will be held at the end of the month.
Three other women's distance runners, Rachel Johnson, Maggie Montoya and Olicia Williams, will look to secure qualifying marks in Stanford, Calif., at the Payton Jordan meet.
In the latest USTFCCCA rankings, both the BU men and women are ranked No. 11.
At the Longhorn Invitational, Baylor's field athletes will get things underway at 12:30 p.m. CT. Running events begin at 4 p.m. at Mike A Myers Stadium.
Last week, the team competed through a wet and cold Drake Relays, recording five runner-up finishes. Out in California, Johnson and Montoya are slated to run in the 5,000 meters, while Williams will run the 800 meters. Williams will lead things off at 8:17 p.m. CT Saturday, while Johnson and Montoya won't run until 9:54 p.m. and 10:31 p.m. CT.
Johnson currently has the seventh-fastest 10,000-meter time nationally with a mark of 33:11.98. Williams' 800-meter run (2:03.22) at the Michael Johnson Classic was a school record and the fifth-best in the NCAA for 2015.
Outside of collegiate competition, sophomore 400-meter runner George Caddick is taking part this weekend at the IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas. Caddick is scheduled to run on the 4x400-meter relay for his native Great Britain. The preliminary heats for that event are at 6 p.m. CT Saturday evening. This year, Caddick owns the 14th-fastest 400-meter time in the NCAA at 46.10. He has helped BU's 4x400-meter crew to the seventh-fastest time at 3:05.26, along with Richard Gary, Kevin Harris and Brandon Moore.
Along with the four top-20 times mentioned above, Baylor athletes have 10 other marks that currently reside in the NCAA top-20 for 2015.
On the men's side, sophomore Trayvon Bromell has the second fastest 100-meter time in the country at 9.90 and the 11th-fastest 200-meter mark at 20.56.
