April 22, 2015 IRVING, Texas - After claiming the 110-meter hurdle title at the Michael Johnson Classic, Baylor track and field junior Bryce Grace was named the Big 12 Male Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced Wednesday.
Grace used a season-best time of 13.70 to capture the event title Saturday at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium. Grace's time is currently ninth-best in the NCAA for 2015 and was just .06 seconds off his career-best mark (13.64). In Saturday's race, he beat Texas Tech's Chris Caldwell, who currently has the nation's fastest 110-hurdle time.
Grace also ran the third leg on BU's second-place 4x100-relay team, which had a time of 40.17.
The honor is the first Big 12 accolade of Grace's career.
Baylor track and field athletes have now won four weekly awards from the Big 12 this year. The women's distance medley relay crew was honored during the indoor season, Tiffani McReynolds and Trayvon Bromell both won an outdoor honor earlier this season.
The four awards won in a single year is the second most in program history, behind the five captured in 2004.
Over 12 years of the outdoor award's existence, Baylor has had seven male athletes honored 11 times. Baylor's athletes are preparing for the Drake Relays, which will begin for BU on Thursday and run through Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
