IRVING, Texas - Baylor men's tennis junior Julian Lenz was named the Big 12 Player of the Week by conference officials Tuesday.

Lenz was instrumental in helping Baylor clinch a share of the Big 12 regular-season title with 4-1 wins over No. 10 Texas and No. 16 Texas Tech in the final week of the regular season.

In singles, Lenz beat both of his opponents in straight sets while playing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. He put BU up 2-1 over the Longhorns as he took down the country's fifth-ranked player in Soren Hess-Olesen, 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday in Austin. Three days later in Lubbock, the junior Bear clinched the victory and a share of the program's 13th regular season title with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over No. 33 Felipe Soares.

In doubles, Lenz and partner Diego Galeano had their match go unfinished in Austin as their teammates quickly claimed the doubles point, but the pairing pulled off the upset of the day to give BU an early advantage against the Red Raiders. The Bear tandem upset No. 16 Soares and Hugo Dojas, 6-4, on court 1 to open the match, as BU went on to clinch the doubles point over the Red Raiders.

For his efforts last week, Lenz moved up to No. 1 in the country in singles and in doubles the BU twosome is up to No. 18.

Lenz is 13-3 on the year in singles play and he are Galeano are 17-1 in doubles play together, having won 14 straight decisions. BU finished the regular season 20-4 and 4-1 in Big 12 play.

It is Baylor's 37th Big 12 weekly honor since 2000. Lenz is one of 16 different Bears to be recognized in that stretch.

Next up, Baylor will begin the postseason as the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Conference Championships starting Friday in Waco. The Bears will take on the winner of Friday's TCU-Oklahoma State match at noon on Saturday.
