April 1, 2015 WACO, Texas - The Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling team (6-0) earned eight of 11 first place votes to move to first in the third National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association's Coaches' Poll of the season Wednesday.
The Bears previously stood in second behind the University of Oregon, who received the other three first place votes in the poll. BU earned its spot at the top from two convincing wins on the road over Oregon 279.77-278.825 on March 12 and at home versus Azusa Pacific 285.765-272.425 on March 28.
"We're honored and excited that coaches across the NCATA placed us in first. This team has worked very hard all season long and has improved greatly since we began in August," head coach Felecia Mulkey said. "Being first is truly an honor, but it has never been a priority to this team and coaching staff. Our priority has been to challenge ourselves and peak at the right time. We still have room for improvement which is just what we want for the final stretch of the season before the national championships."
Next up for the Bears is an Easter break tri-meet, Friday, April 3, versus Fairmont State and Alderson-Broaddus at 3 p.m. (CT) in Farimont, W.Va.
