THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas - For a second-straight year, the Baylor track and field women's 4x800-meter relay team captured the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays title Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The quartet of Maggie Montoya, Jessica Purtell, Raena Rhone and Olicia Williams bested the rest of the field by over six seconds in running an 8:39.25. That time was fifth-best in school history as Williams ran a 2:04.3 on the anchor leg to hold the lead that Rhone had built. The Bears were third through the first two legs, before Rhone took over the lead at the 2,300-meter mark while running her first competitive 800-meters.
Last year, Montoya and Williams were part of the group that won the event in 8:46.84. To conclude the day, sophomore Alex Davis took third in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 16:34.35.
In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Kiana Hawn was the final qualifier as she turned in a personal-best time of 59.69. She will get a chance to run in Friday's 6:55 p.m. final.
In the conclusion of the heptathlon, Jenna Pfeiffer racked up the ninth-best point total in school history (5,256) to place eighth. It was a personal-best point tally for the junior, who also had personal-best performances in the long jump (18-2.25 [5.54m]) and the javelin (129-2 [39.39m]). Pfeiffer also had the second-best time of any of the athletes in the 800 meters at 2:17.26.

TOP QUOTE #1
"Our 4x8 crew did a super job. They each ran the races they needed to run. It is always tough on a relay to get four girls to put it together, but they all did a great job. In this wind, it was a very impressive performance." - head coach Todd Harbour on the day
TOP QUOTE #2
"Jenna (Pfeiffer) had a great day. It was a PR for her, which was nice to see. Alex (Davis) then closed out the night with another PR, but it was good to see her back. She had a rough indoor season, so that was a great start to the outdoor season for her." - head coach Todd Harbour on the day
