WACO, Texas - Two athletes and one signee of the Baylor Track and Field program were recognized for their outstanding 2014 seasons by three different publications recently.

Current sophomore Trayvon Bromell had one of the greatest collegiate freshman seasons in history and was awarded Track & Field News' Collegiate men's Athlete of the Year honor.

Bromell became the first BU athlete to even appear on The Bowerman Award watch list. The St. Petersburg, Fla., product's inaugural season at BU was highlighted by winning the NCAA title in the 100 meters with a new world junior record time of 9.97 on June 13 in Eugene, Ore. Bromell also won the Big 12 100-meter title in 9.77 (4.2) in Lubbock, Texas.

BU freshman Kevin Harris was tabbed as the 2014 High School Men's Athlete of the Year by the Texas Track & Field Coaches Association. Harris helped lead Texarkana High School to a 4A state championship in his final prep season. He anchored both the 4x1 (nation-leading time of 40.41) and the UIL Class 4A record-setting 4x2 with a time of 1:24.26. Harris' 20.68 (wind-aided) 200 at the Region 2-4A meet on April 25 was the fastest time in the nation.

One future Bear, Taylor Bennett, was named the 2014 Gulf Coast Scholastic Track Association's Female Athlete of the Year. Bennett placed third in the 100 meters and fifth in the 200 meters at the 2014 Texas 5A state meet. She is also the two-time defending 5A Region 2 champion in both events.
