Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On Khadijiah Caveà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Well, I think it doesn't matter if [Khadijiah Cave] starts or doesn't start. She plays the same way every time. She just happens to be finishing a lot of shots right now, and she brings energy every time she steps on the floor. She's getting her hands on a lot of offensive boards, which doesn't surprise me."
On defenseà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We just played zone all day. I didn't think we were doing a good enough job early in the game where we were keeping them in front of us, so I just decided to see if they could shoot it. And we just stayed with the zone, a 2-2-1 and then a 2-3."
On preparing for Grambling Stateà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think it's a teaching process for some of them. When you're young, you're not stupid. You look at talented teams and then you look at teams that aren't as talented. Sometimes, you may coast. As a coach, I may be a little bit more relaxed, but I'm still intense and still looking at combinations and still coaching. Finals week is next week, so I'm sure they have a lot of that on their mind. Christmas is around the corner. It's a very difficult month."
On Nina Davisà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Nina can make those shots. She just has to put herself in the position to be open and to take them, and when she's not, she can take you off the dribble. Because of numbers right now, we need her to do that. She played more three today than she did four, and I think that had a lot to do with Kristina [Higgins], [Khadijiah Cave], Beatrice [Mompremier] and Kalani [Brown] doing well. Nina did some good things out there at the three."
Sophomore Kristy Wallace
On the guards throwing to the postà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We've definitely been working on that in practice over the past week. Coach Mulkey has been emphasizing that a lot to the posts, so I think that's important that we are working on that pass. Sometimes it has been short, and as [Khadijiah Cave] said, we just need to throw it up there. We have so much size and height and so much athleticism on our team that these girls can just go and get the ball."
On facing Grambling Stateà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"That motivation is always there. I think that every time you step on the floor, you have to give 100 percent effort, no matter what. It doesn't matter who you're playing. You have to give it your all."
Junior Khadijiah Cave
On her impressive performanceà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I was just doing what I could do to help my team. I just ran the floor, tried to position myself on the offensive end and defensive end. I just tried to help in any way that I could."
On the guardsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They're doing a good job. I try to tell them to throw it as high as they can, and it's my job to get it. I just try to position myself in the best place to go get it and lay it up."
GRAMBLING STATE POSTGAME QUOTES
Grambling State Head Coach Nadine Domond
Opening statementà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think my kids played their hearts out. They played extremely hard. I am super proud of my girls. The score is not a reflection of what they gave today. They left everything on the court. All you ask is to execute the game plan, and they did that. I am proud of my girls, the score might not reflect that, but I am. This is just the beginning of us getting better and growing."
On how this game prepares them for conference playà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"All of our preseason games are set up for us to be successful in our conference. You have to credit Kim [Mulkey] ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" she has a great team and great players. Our girls came ready to fight and to leave it all on the floor. I am proud of them, it was a great game. I am just excited to get ready for part two of the season, but right now, we have to take care of the game we have next week."
