Nov. 5, 2015 WACO, Texas ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor senior Spencer Drango was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII football team, as announced by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.
Baylor has had at least one academic all-district honoree in every season since 2004, with 11 different players earning 18 total honors. Drango now joins Daniel Sepulveda, Joe Pawelek, Derek Epperson and Robert Griffin III as multiple-year all-district honorees for Baylor.
In the classroom, the Cedar Park, Texas, product has been a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree, while earning 2013 first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. He is a two-time Baylor Dean's List honoree and an eight-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. Drango graduated in December 2014 with a degree in Finance and is currently working on his Master's. He had a 3.71 GPA in undergrad and a 3.97 GPA in grad school classes.
On the field for the undefeated Bears, Drango is a returning All-American and a two-time All-Big 12 first team honoree. In 2015, Drango has started all seven games at left tackle for No. 2 ranked Baylor. He has aided the Bears in again being the top offense in the country (686.1 ypg and 61.1 ppg), while ranking second in rushing offense with 338.3 yards per game on the ground. With Drango's help, Baylor ranks eighth in the country in sacks allowed with .86 per game.
He was named the Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of Year in 2014, after starting all 13 games for the Big 12 champion Bears.
Drango is already on the Outland Trophy watch list. To round out his impressive resume he has been named Wuerffel Trophy and Rotary Lombardi Award semifinalists, a Campbell Trophy finalist and a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
The senior is now a candidate for the Capital One Academic All-America team, which will be announced in December.
Drango will be on the field Thursday for the second-ranked Bears as they face Kansas State at 6:30 p.m. on FS1 in Manhattan, Kan.
