THE RUNDOWN
ATLANTA --
Baylor women's golf finished in fourth place at the inaugural East Lake Cup after dropping matches to USC and Stanford. The Bears resumed their semifinal match against USC on Tuesday morning, falling 1-4, and Stanford defeated Baylor 4-0-1 in the consolation match later in the day.

Baylor trailed USC 1-2-2 when play was suspended due to darkness Monday night. Lauren Whyte was tied through 17 holes in her match against No. 3-ranked Karen Chung, but they needed only one hole to decide the winner on Tuesday when Whyte made a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole to secure BU's only point of the day.

Louise Gateau-Chovelon was 1-up entering the day, but USC's Gabriella Then won the first four holes on Tuesday to claim that point for USC. Maggie Beth Byers fell 4-and-3 against USC's Robynn Ree, which forced Laura Lonardi's match against Tiffany Chan to end with four holes remaining and Lonardi trailing by one hole.

In the consolation match against Stanford, Laura Lonardi halved her point against Mariah Stackhouse, giving BU its only point of the match. Byers was one hole down with three holes remaining against Shannon Aubert, but that match ended early after Stanford claimed the other three points to secure the match.

TOP QUOTE
"I felt positive about how this morning's matches went," head coach Jay Goble said. "They fought hard against the best team in the country right now, and we had a chance. For all of the progress we made yesterday and this morning, we didn't do well this afternoon. We're trying, but that isn't good enough. This team needs to have a concrete plan on what to do this offseason, and it's my job to make sure we do it. We'll be better in the spring."

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor has completed the fall portion of its schedule and will have more than three months off before returning to competition at the 2016 Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge. That tournament will be played Feb. 7-9 at Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Bears won the event in 2015, finishing in front of nine of the nation's top 15 teams to earn automatic entry into this season's tournament.
