IRVING, Texas - The Baylor cross country team led the Big 12's 10 institutions with 16 student-athletes earning a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 team, the league office announced Tuesday.

This is the fourth-straight year that Baylor has led the conference in combined men's and women's academic selections.

The Bears had seven men and nine women recognized overall, while six men and all nine women were first-team honorees. BU tied for the most men's overall and first-team selections.

On the men's side, seniors Chris McElroy, a film and digital media major, and Kyle Scanlan (professional selling, distribution management and technology) were recognized for the third time on the first team, while JR Hardy, a health science studies major, carded his second Academic All-Big 12 first-team accolade. Senior Matt Galvin (professional selling) earned the third second-team honor of his career.

Sophomores Eric Anderson (pre-business) and Matt Parham (biology: pre-health care) earned their first first-team selections in their first year of eligibility for the team.

For the women, Annie Jaska (supply chain management and management information systems) and Gretta Smith (biology: pre-health care) were honored on the first team for a third-straight year.

Peyton Thomas, an environmental science major, carded her second-straight first-team honor.

Senior Catherine Zabilski (exercise physiology) produced the second first-team honor of her career, after also being recognized in 2013.

Juniors Katie Grovatt (journalism), Maggie Montoya (health science services) and Madie Zimmerman (nutrition sciences) all earned their first Academic All-Big 12 recognitions in cross country. Meanwhile, sophomores Aubree Miller (biology: pre-health) and Leila Rohde (pre-business) garnered first-team honors in their first years of eligibility.

Rohde was among 16 runners across the conference that was nominated with a 4.0 grade point average.

A total of 51 student-athletes were honored on the men's team, while 70 student-athletes make up the women's team. One hundred and one of the 121 selections are first team honorees.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
