20/21 BAYLOR (2-1) 77, JACKSON STATE (1-2) 60 Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 Ferrell Center (Waco, Texas) Attendance: 5,973 BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew
On JSU's hot startà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Bad first five minutes [for us]. Credit to Jackson State for making shots. I think after that, we really played well defensively and rebounded well. Obviously, offensive turnovers is an area of concern, so we'll keep working on that and adjusting from there."
On Al Freeman's playà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Al is one of those guys who spends an enormous amount of time in the gym. Whenever you spend that much time and effort working on your game, you're going to improve. You can't put a ceiling on people like that. What's really been impressive with Al is his efficiency. Al did it on both ends of the court. It was an outstanding performance by him."
On Terry Maston's playà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I thought TJ gave us a great spurt when he and Jonathan Motley came in together. They fed off of each other and did some great things."
On the defensive adjustmentsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We went to the man. I thought they made some tough shots and you've got to give them credit. Obviously, the man [defense] changed the game energy-wise. After we got down, I think the urgency went up to a whole different level."
Sophomore Al Freeman
On the defensive adjustmentsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Defense in itself is all about heart and effort. I definitely think we turned up our energy on the defensive end. Anytime you play defense harder, it just leads into your offense. It gave us some flow in the game, we started talking more, flying around more, and started to take it more personal."
On the level of confidence in his playà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I'm pretty confident right now. My teammates are doing a great job, they're penetrating and giving me open shots. I think we're moving the ball well, playing with each other, and I think when we are making shots as a team, we develop confidence."
Sophomore Terry Maston
On the strengths of his performanceà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"Today, I was a great rebounder and scorer around the basket. That's pretty much my role. I came in and I think I provided a good spark by getting some rebounds and some key baskets, and we went on a run."
On the post play throughout the gameà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"We took a timeout when we were down ten, and they told us we were open. I was seeing when Rico was open and they weren't getting him the ball, so I told them look for me here when the zone shifts and when we get ball reversals. I was able to capitalize on it."
JACKSON STATE POSTGAME QUOTES
Jackson State Head Coach Wayne Brent
On the team's hot startà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think what happened was we practiced for their zone. That's all we practiced on for the last couple days. If they play zone, we were going to spot up and shoot because we can spot up and shoot. When they went man, it kind of shocked us and we were just looking, but they were so aggressive with their man and they've got so much length that it kind of threw our rhythm off."
On Baylor's move to the zoneà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"I think it was a good move on their part and, I told my guys, I've never seen them just come out of zone. They play zone so much."
On Javares Brent's matchupsà ¢Ã¢' ¬ ¦
"They did a good job of recognizing that he played really well last game. Every time he came down the floor you could hear Coach (Drew) saying, 'There goes shooter. There goes shooter.' I thought they did a great job of not letting him get shots off and what we did was we went with some other guys just because he couldn't get his shot off. It was more so what they did to take him out of the game."
