Oct. 15, 2015 PHILADELPHIA ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" Baylor junior wide receiver Corey Coleman was one of seven players added to the 2015 Maxwell Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced Thursday.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell.
Coleman joins running back Shock Linwood and quarterback Seth Russell, who were on the original watch list for the 79th-annual award when it was announced in July.
In his second full season as a starter, Coleman has had one of the best starts to the season of any wide receiver in the country. He leads the FBS in touchdown receptions (13), is fourth in receiving yards per game (135.6) and eighth in yards per reception (21.8). The 13 TD grabs rank second-most in BU history for a single season and are more than 111 FBS teams have in total this season.
Coleman has been a major part in helping the Bears lead the NCAA with 725.0 yards of offense per game and 64.2 points per contest. BU is the only team in the country averaging over nine yards per play, gaining 9.09 yards a snap. Overall, Baylor's 321 points through five games are the most by any school since major classification began in 1937.
With Coleman's heroics, Baylor has risen to a program-best ranking of No. 2 in both the AP Top 25 and the Amway Coaches Poll. The Bears are 5-0 for the third-straight year ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" a program first ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢' ¬" and 2-0 in conference play for a third-straight year as well.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Nov. 2, while three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 23. The winners of the 2015 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 10. The formal presentations of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 11.
BU welcomes West Virginia to McLane Stadium at 11 a.m. Saturday. The game will be nationally televised by FOX.
