Baylor Head Coach Art Briles

Opening statement...
"First of all, a tremendous accomplishment by our football team. That being said, you know, it's so hard to repeat as a champion. That's why Seattle is struggling a bit this year. The Pac-12, The Big 10 and the SEC, those people are having new champions. The Big12 and Florida State won tonight in the ACC repeated. It's tough to do. Last year it was a thrill, it was exciting, it was hopeful, and this year, it's like what I?was saying, we got the windows rolled up and the doors locked because someone is trying to get to us and you know, we're not taking jabs, we're taking hey makers. They're trying to knock us out. And for our football team to sustain through that and through the season really shows me a lot of substance in our program and in those players and in our fan base. Our fans are unbelievable. You know, all this deal started last night and you knew it was going to be a hyped-up atmosphere. Our kids were just great. You know, I?walked around the students last night, they were all camped out. It just humbles you. I?love young people. And I?love young people that have vision, that are innocent, that are doing things for the right reasons. That's the way our kids are here. And this morning at GameDay they were just tremendous. The atmosphere tonight, that was second to none. You can't find a better stadium in the United States of America to play a football game on the Brazos River with the bridge that we have and the atmosphere. It's a big thrill, a great privilege, and I'm very thankful to be a part of it. We played a very good Kansas State team; we knew they were going to be tough. They were No. 9 in the country for a reason. They are good. They are a well-coached football team who really plays for themselves. It's like I?was saying before the game -- we have to be better at what we do than what they're good at what they do they do. We had to be better at what we do, which is being explosive and scoring points, than how they play the game, which is being patient, working it down the field and scoring points in the game. I?think we had 12 snaps in the third quarter. It's always a tough draw and they are a senior laden team.?So it's a big win. It's a big win for our team, and it's a big win for Baylor University."

On conversation about being the one true champion...
"I?don't think I?should have to, but apparently I do because I think he came out publicly and said that if we end up winning and TCU ended up winning today, which is what happened, then he would end up presenting us to the committee as co-champs. You know, that's what I think I was told that he said. And that was just my view. If you are going to slogan around and say that there is one true champion then don't say one thing and then do another. That's my whole deal. You know, if they said we got co-champs, there's always going to be co-champs, head-to-head doesn't matter, I'm okay with it. But don't say one thing and do another. I'm not obligated to him. I?am obligated to Baylor University and our football team. And we just happen to be a part of the Big 12, and we just happen to be the champion two years in a row. So, they need to be obligated to us because we're helping the Big 12's standings in the nation.

On proving they are one of the four best in the country...
"I?do. My case would be, Take the top 10 universities in the nation, put them on a wall and take the names off of them. Then look at the resumes and find four that are better. Now, Oklahoma not winning tonight affects us a little bit because they were a top 15 team, and they will probably drop. But, when we played they were No. 15 in America. And when we played them up there they were No. 15. We probably had the best road game out of anybody in the nation this year because that's a hard place to go win. We beat a top 5 team and we beat a top 10 team. My case would be, if Nebraska had our resume, would you have them in the final four? If Wisconsin had our resume would you have them in the final four? Stanford, Washington, Notre Dame, If they had our resume would you have them in the final four? That would be my case. Just look at the resumes and make a decision. We played 6 home games; everybody else in front of us had seven. You say it doesn't make a difference, but it does. It makes a difference. We played six home games. They can talk about the non-conference schedule. We traveled 1500 miles in the largest crowd in Buffalo history. Some teams had people come to the. Some of the teams in front of us, never really had a road game, they had neutral sites for road games but never went to another person's home field. It makes a difference, I'm a coach I know."

On College GameDay being in Waco...
"There's one game picked in America, and they picked ours. I?don't know the last time they picked a university in Texas, someone probably knows; I don't. I can't think any university that has been on in Texas. They chose Baylor. They chose Baylor because have a great stadium, we have a great name, we have a great team, and we have great alumni."

On tomorrow's final playoff rankings...
"We'll get up here and go to work. We are coaches, we will see what's going on, where we'll go recruiting at. Actually, recruiting started last week, but we weren't able to go out because we were still playing. So we've got eight days, including tomorrow, so we'll get on the road and get recruiting. We'll get the 11:30 a.m. deadline and see what happens. Then I guess we'll find out what the bowl we might be in. Then we'll talk to our players, give them a head's up on what's going on, and we'll go from there.

Baylor QB Bryce Petty

On back-to-back Big 12 championships...
"I'm just ready for the bowl game. No, I'm just kidding. It was a great football game. It's great [to be back-to-back Big 12 champs], it really is. I am so proud of every one of those guys in the locker room. There's something about a brotherhood. When you work so hard with each other, offseason, summer condition and fall camp, you've got a common goal that everybody is so committed to and then you reach that goal, and it happens, it's the greatest feeling in the world. And I couldn't be more happy than of the guys I am doing it with. We're just humbled. I?don't know why God chose me and put me here, in this place, in this room, with those guys, getting to lead them every day is such a blessing. God is good. He takes care of those who don't take care of themselves."

On whether or not Baylor will be in the playoffs...
"That question is really above my pay-grade. All I'm not paid to do is play. So, you know, if there's another running for president, that's the man to do it. Coach Briles is the best at it. What he told us yesterday was give me ammunition. And so these hats are our ammunition and he's going to run with it. I?don't know what's going to happen, and to be honest we're going to play in January regardless. Obviously we want to be playing fora National Championship, we want to be in the playoffs but if it doesn't happen, there is still so much to the season and so much to be proud of either way."

Baylor RB Johnny Jefferson

On the game...
"This year was just so much special to me. Because I grew close to the team and to the seniors;I got to build a relationship with them. I'm full of joy right now for those guys. And for me because we have the opportunity to do it again next year."

On tomorrow's final playoff rankings...
"We are not focused on that right now. What we are focused on first is winning a Big 12 Championship and winning today. And tomorrow we are just going to let our actions on the field today show to the committee that we are a great team to be competing for a national championship."

Baylor OT Spencer Drango

On playing with Bryce Petty today...
"Bryce played outstanding. He is a great quarterback. It was an emotional game. It was the last game in McLane Stadium for all the seniors. All the guys have worked their butts off to get back-to-back Big 12 championships."

On Bryce's accuracy...
"Bryce played outstanding. We wouldn't expect anything else on senior day and his last game at McLane. Big-time player for a big-time show and a big-time stage. He had to step up and he did."

Baylor WR Clay Fuller

On coming on the field for the last time tonight...
"I don't think it's really hit me yet just because it's not the last time I'm going to step on the field. It is in Waco. It's emotional but I'm still looking forward to one game or two games or whatever we have left to play."

On being involved in the game that led to a second straight Big 12 title...
"It always feel good to be able to contribute and help the team win but on the same token, ever since I've been here I don't want to be a selfish player. It's all about the team. I mean that and we've got some talented guys on this team and everybody deserves touches. Just to be a part of history is a blessing."

Baylor WR Levi Norwood

On Bryce Petty's performance tonight...
"He was just being Bryce out there. That's exactly what we expect from but he definitely did an awesome job, just reading the defense and checking in and out of stuff and he won us the game."

On how Bryce approached the game this week...
"After he got hit last week, he was telling us he was good to go. Once he said that, that's what we expected from him."

Baylor AD Ian McCaw

On the possible effects of not naming one champion...
"We'll have to wait and see what happens. Obviously tomorrow is going to be a fascinating day and a lot of eyes will be glued to ESPN at 11:45 a.m. to see what happens and also to see what the rationale is."

On the Big 12 compared to the Big Ten having a champion that won tonight...
"It could be a factor. The thing that's going to be interesting is just looking at the strength of the Big 12 Conference overall, depending on who you listen to, being the champion of that conference should carry a lot of weight."

On his understanding of the Big 12 bylaws relating to champions...
"My understanding is that if you have two teams that tie, they're both called co-champions, both get trophies, but of course you have a tiebreaker in place and the team that would win the tiebreaker would be the Big 12 representative to the College Football Playoff system. It doesn't necessarily mean you would be in the top four, but you would be advanced as the Big 12 representative, not unlike in the sport of volleyball; for example, if you had two teams tie, you would have to declare one as the automatic qualifier from the conference, and it would be based on the tiebreaker. Again, we feel like we're the one true champion and we'll wait and see what the committee thinks tomorrow."

Kansas State Head Coach Bill Snyder

On matching up with Baylor...
"Statistics and numbers would identify (that we didn't watch up). We were poorly prepared. That simple. We just didn't do a good job in our preparation. There are a lot of things that you and slack off on and say, `you didn't tackle well,' and all that stuff. We just did not prepare well."

On Baylor's speed...
"They have good quickness. They have a couple of guys who can run extremely well, but we have played against fast guys before. We didn't get people in the position that we needed to get them in to defend against a very fine and talented offense. I'd like to think that we are better than that."

On trading field goals for touchdowns with Baylor...
"Like I said, there were a monumental number of events that took place in the course of the ballgame. It's easy to say that we weren't well-prepared on defense, which is a true statement. If you get into a shooting match like that, then you better be able to have some bullets in your gun too. We didn't have as many as we needed."

On what went wrong...
"The dynamics of games like this are complex, I think. Our problem was what was happening on defense affected what happened on our offense. We put the brakes on. Every time they had the ball, we just couldn't keep them from advancing. That became a problem because they kept scoring, and pretty soon we had to go for it."

Kansas State QB Jake Waters

On Baylor trying to stop KSU's receivers...
"Baylor did a great job. They tried to take away (both Tyler Lockett and Curry Sexton), but Tyler just had a great game. I probably could have done a better job getting Curry the ball, but that's just how the game went."

On Baylor not giving up the long ball...
"What do you think they were working on all week? They didn't want that to happen again. They played well. Their defensive line created some havoc in our offense, even though we did well for the most part. Their defense was great and got back there at times. It just wasn't our night."

Kansas State WR Tyler Lockett

On Baylor stopping WR Curry Sexton...
"Baylor did a great job with their game plan. They took away one of us. They decided that they'd rather get beat by one person than have the other beat us. We took what they gave us. If they gave us the passing game, that's what we did. A lot of the plays might have gone to me because of the way they were playing. I had a better chance of getting open. There were times when we tried to Curry the ball and they might have brought a rush. They did a great job with that."

Kansas State DE Ryan Mueller

On Bryce Petty...
"The way he motivates his guys and offensive line and moves the offense can be heard in his voice. We is certainly the captain of the group. They followed his lead and are certainly motivated by his actions and demands. I think that he does a fine job of getting absolute best out of his guys."
