Dec. 10, 2014 COMPLETE BIG 12 RELEASE
IRVING, Texas - Baylor football had eight players honored on the All-Big 12 Teams, the league announced Wednesday. The Bears have now had four or more selections in seven straight years and have had the Offensive Lineman of the Year in three straight seasons.
Selections are made by the league's 10 head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own players. BU's eight selections are second-most in program history after having 10 last season.
Junior tackle Spencer Drango earned Co-Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year, joining Cyril Richardson (2012, 2013) as the only two players in program history to earn the honor. The junior Outland Trophy semifinalist was a first-team All-Big 12 choice for the second straight year and led all BU blockers with an 89 percent coaches grade through 11 games in an offense that leads the country in points (48.8) and yards (581.3) per game.
Joining Drango on the first team were running back Shock Linwood and defensive linemen Andrew Billings and Shawn Oakman. Linwood, who was an honorable mention for Offensive Newcomer of the Year choice, earned the first team honor for the first time. He's second in the league with 102.2 yards per game and 16 touchdowns. The sophomore has career-highs in carries (240), yards (1,226), touchdowns (16) and yards per game.
A first-time honoree, Billings ranks fourth among D-lineman in the league with 0.96 tackles-for-loss per game. The sophomore has career-highs in tackles (35), TFLs (11.5), sacks (2) and QB hurries (8).
Oakman, an honorable mention selection for Defensive Newcomer of the Year last season, garnered the honor for the first time. The junior Chuck Bednarik Award semifinalist leads the league with 1.54 TFLs per game and is third with 0.83 sacks per game. Thus far, he has career-highs in tackles (48), sacks (10), TFLs (18.5), QB hurries (9), fumbles forced (3) and fumbles recovered (3).
Among Baylor's second team selections were quarterback Bryce Petty, receiver Corey Coleman, linebacker Bryce Hager and punter Spencer Roth. Last year's Offensive Player of the Year earned his second All-Big 12 accolade. The Manning and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards finalist leads the league in touchdown-to-interception ratio (26/6) and is second with a 155.3 passing efficiency rating. The senior has a career-high in completion percentage (62.1) while going 234-for-377 with 3,305 yards (300.5/game) and 26 touchdowns.
A first-time honoree, Coleman is tied for the Big 12 lead in touchdown catches (10) while only playing nine games. He's third in the league with 107.7 receiving yards per game. So far in his breakout sophomore season, Coleman has career-highs in catches (57), yards (969), yards per catch (17.0), yards per game and touchdown catches.
Hager collected his second All-Big 12 award as he was also a second-team choice in 2012 (honorable mention in 2013). He ranks fourth in the league with 8.4 tackles per game. The senior has his second season with 100 or more tackles (101) while he also has career-highs in TFLs (11) and interceptions (1). Additionally, he has two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Roth garnered the distinction for the second time after being a first-team choice last season. The senior is second in the league with 43.3 yards per punt. He has a career-high 19 punts inside the 20.
