NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty has been named one of 15 "Players to Watch" for the 2014 Walter Camp Player of the Year award, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced on Wednesday.

The Walter Camp Award is the nation's fourth-oldest college football award and has been given annually to the nation's top player since 1967.

The 15-player watch list includes eight quarterbacks, three defensive players, two wide receivers and two running backs. Fourteen different schools and seven conferences are represented on the list. Petty joins TCU's Trevone Boykin as the only Big 12 representatives on the list.

This season, Petty has helped sixth-ranked Baylor to an 8-1 start by throwing for 2,421 yards and 21 touchdowns with only three interceptions. In his second year as a starter, Petty leads the Big 12 in passing efficiency at 152.2, which is the country's 16th-best mark. He is also picking up a Big 12-best 14.76 yards per completion, the nation's 10th-best mark.

The senior signal caller has directed the nation's top offense as the Bears are averaging 585.1 yards per game and scoring 50.1 points per contest. Individually, Petty is 11th nationally in passing yards per game (302.6) and 12th in points responsible for per game (18.0).

Petty graduated in May 2013 with a degree in health science studies and is currently enrolled in graduate school classes.

This is the second straight season that Petty has been named a Walter Camp Award semifinalist, and before that Robert Griffin III was a finalist for the honor in 2011.

Petty has already been named a Unitas Golden Arm Award finalist, a Maxwell Award semifinalist and Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist.

A list of five finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award will be announced on Dec. 3. The 2014 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, who is voted on by the Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be presented on Dec. 11 during the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN's SportsCenter.
