POSTGAME QUOTES - BAYLOR

Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On what she got out of the game:
"I think we improved in some areas, but honestly we didn't improve in some other areas. We got to look at our zone [defense]. We ran a lot of zone. I got to play more players than I played the other night. I think you can see there's not going to be just one superstar on the floor. I think there's a lot of players out there that understand that we've got to score at all positions. I also think we have the depth to do a lot of rotations. I think a lot of kids can play. If we press, I think I have a team I can put out there athletically that can press. If I need to go big, I have a team I can put out there that's big. Niya (Johnson) and Kristy (Wallace) are our primary ball handlers, and there will be instances where they do play together a lot, and there will be times when I have them out there with other perimeter players. We'll have a better perimeter rotation when Imani (Wright) and Ieshia (Small) play again. Right now I'm having to play Nina on the perimeter some because those kids didn't play. Imani will play the next game."

On games ahead:
"We're going to see pressing against Kentucky. We're going to see zones against Oral Roberts. We're going to see a big girl for Oral Roberts that's a transfer from Oklahoma State, who gave Britney Griner all she wanted and now she transferred over to Oral Roberts. Two totally different teams these next few games. We've got a lot of work to do. We were awful from the foul line. You can't miss that many free throws. I thought we took care of the ball in the first half, but in the second half we got sloppy and ended up with 16 turnovers."

On playing zone:
"We won a national championship playing some zone against LSU. As you can see, the hand checking rule, it is what it is. If we don't get better early in the year, which is going to take some time, because I've got some new pieces out there. I can't expect them to be a great defensive team yet. We're playing Oral Roberts and Kentucky in non-conference early. We're trying to win, so if we get in foul trouble early because of the hand checking, I'm not going to be stubborn and not play zone, if that's what we need to do to win a ball game. If I have to do it to keep us out of foul trouble, I got to make sure we're prepared for it."

Junior Post Kristina Higgins
On her hot start:
"On Saturday, Coach Mulkey challenged me to take advantage of the opportunity I've been given. That's what I was thinking - do what you got to do and try to score the ball."

On her improved movement on the floor:
"I'm definitely in better shape. Being in better shape allows me to move a lot quicker than I did last year and previous years."

Sophomore Forward Nina Davis
On playing some on the perimeter:
"It doesn't bother me. Whatever the team needs, I'm willing to do. I'm not uncomfortable playing on the outside, so if that's what the team needs me to do, I'll go out and help on the outside. Of course, I'm probably more comfortable on the inside, because that's what I played all last year, but either way it doesn't matter."

On getting back into action after sitting out the first preseason game:
"I was anxious. It just feels great to be back. Even though these games don't count, they're still important. They help us prepare for big games in the future like Kentucky. Every game is a big game."

Freshman Guard Kristy Wallace
On her comfort level with the team:
"It's been great. I feel like I fit well with the team. It's good having leaders to help me fit in to the team and learn what I need to."
